One client –five senior level needs
The Client:
We were retained by an individual who had amassed a significant commercial real estate portfolio in and around Toronto.
The Challenge:
Our mandate was to recruit a well-known and respected senior real estate professional to take charge of this portfolio as Chief Executive Officer of the corporation. The ideal candidate needed to be skilled in leasing, asset and property management, and development. At the same time, we were also mandated to recruit four seasoned and highly-regarded board members.
Our Strategy:
We systematically reached out to senior real estate professionals in the Toronto marketplace. Again, no silver bullets – just persistence in seeking out the qualities our client had articulated.
Success:
Over a period of six months, we completed all five assignments. The feedback that we continue to receive is extremely gratifying when we are asked, "How did you ever put together so strong a board with these well-known and highly respected executives, along with such a well-regarded CEO for a relatively unknown private business?"
Post Mortem:
What was the secret to our ultimate success? We maintain that our success was due to our development of a thorough understanding of the principal, his needs, and his vision of what he wanted to create. A personal meeting of the minds was absolutely critical, and we became adept at recognizing the styles of individuals who would appeal to him and those that would not. We were also able to leverage our significant knowledge of the Canadian commercial real estate market to quickly identify the candidates our client would find attractive.
